Whirlpool is hosting a Barbeque to benefit the United Way of Southwest Michigan and the public is invited to attend. The Hickory Pit Barbeque will be at the Whirlpool Hilltop South building across from El Cozumel Restaurant in St. Joseph on Friday September, 25 from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.
The Hickory Pit owners, David and Susan Yates, will donate 30 percent of the proceeds from the event to the United Way and any tips received at the event. The event is scheduled to end at 5 p.m., but the Yates’ said they will stay until 7 p.m. if people are still buying or until the supplies run out.
“We are so excited about this,” said Kristy Spessard, building lead for the Whirlpool Hilltop South United Way campaign. “Whirlpool employees will be able to participate but we want to raise as much money as possible for United Way so we wanted to open it up to anyone who would like to come out and enjoy a great barbeque meal.”
The Hickory Pit meals are cash and carry. The cost for an authentic southern smoked BBQ sandwich is $4.50. A BBQ Dinner which includes the pulled pork sandwich along with baked beans and coleslaw is $7. Bottled water and pop will also be available.
“We will have part of the parking lot roped off for this event and tents in case it rains,” Yates said. “We are really hoping for a great turn out.”
