United Way to release report on Southwest Michigan’s low-income working families at live virtual event with state leaders

The event will unveil new data from the 2021 ALICE Report on the magnitude of need for working families and recognize the partnership across nonprofit, government, and business sectors to improve conditions for our ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) population.

United Way of Southwest Michigan invites members of the media to a virtual event announcing findings from the 2021 ALICE Report on Tuesday, March 23, hosted by the Michigan Association of United Ways (MAUW), along with Governor Whitmer and other state leaders. The event will take place at 11 a.m. on MAUW’s Facebook page at facebook.com/MIUnitedWays.

The report will include the latest data from 2019 on ALICE households (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) in Berrien, Cass, and Van Buren Counties and throughout Michigan. ALICE households are considered those whose earnings are above the Federal Poverty Line but who fail to cover basic needs, including housing, technology, healthcare, and childcare.

“In order to address the issues facing working families in our community, it’s crucial that we understand the nature of their situations and challenges,” said Anna Murphy, President and CEO of United Way of Southwest Michigan. “The annual ALICE Report gives us the insight we need to improve the lives of that population in our region.”
