United Way debuts annual Cass County volunteer leadership award

This new lifetime achievement award is named in honor of Cass County’s Judge Susan L. Dobrich.

United Way of Southwest Michigan is accepting nominations for the 2022 Judge Susan L. Dobrich Volunteer Leadership Award for Cass County.

In partnership with United Way, the McLoughlin Family Foundation created this award to recognize Judge Dobrich’s leadership in Cass County and to honor other leaders like her in that community. In 1995 Judge Dobrich founded the Court Appointed Special Advocate program in Cass County to give children a voice in abuse and neglect matters.

“Judge Dobrich has been an incredible leader in our community, helping underserved populations in ways that many people aren’t aware. Her passion and commitment to helping those who are in vulnerable populations means that many people now have a voice when they might not have before,” said Anna Murphy, President and CEO of United Way of Southwest Michigan. “We are proud to continue to recognize other Cass County volunteer leaders in her honor.”

This award will be presented to one volunteer in Cass County, Michigan who demonstrates more than eight years of volunteer contributions, a diversity of volunteer experience with multiple organizations or a significant contribution to a single organization, and various levels of volunteer experience including teamwork, physical, clerical, and/or leadership.

“For generations, the people of Cass County have been helping one another through a variety of agencies, organizations, and businesses. This volunteer spirit has helped countless families and individuals get through life’s challenges, making communities stronger,” said Emily McLoughlin of the McLoughlin Family Foundation. “We look forward to recognizing those who helped lead that volunteer spirit.”

The winner of this award will receive $3,500 that will be directed to a nonprofit that serves Cass County residents—the winner will choose from a list of agencies or organizations that serve Cass County. The monetary portion of this award is being provided by the McLoughlin Family Foundation.

Nominations must be done by a member of a local organization; self-nominations are not permitted for this award.

NOMINATIONS CLOSE MARCH 31, 2022.
